Position Announcement - Systems Librarian

CASSIDY CATALOGUING SERVICES is a small, quality-minded company providing electronic resources cataloguing to major legal publishers and over 150 law schools. Cassidy Cataloguing also provides P-CIP to scores of small publishing houses and contract cataloguing directly to special libraries. The catalogers on staff teach "Cataloguing" and "Technical Services" in metro area graduate programs.

LOCATION: 95% of this person's time will be spent in Cassidy Cataloguing's offices in Rockaway, NJ located between Routes 80 and 46 in Morris County. It is easiest to drive there although public transportation from NYC is available. Morris County is a beautiful, livable section of New Jersey, filled with parks, museums, concert venues - a cultural wonderland.

Responsibilities

• Position reports to VP / Chief Information Officer
• Management of a SIRSIDynix "Symphony" integrated library system, including authorities, cataloging, and E-Library. Maintenance and routine error-checking. Install upgrades, patching, etc.
• Management of a Cuadra Associates' "STAR" integrated library system, including cataloging, OPAC, and serials check-in. Maintenance and routine error-checking. Install upgrades and patches, etc.
• Install, maintain, and upgrade OCLC and SkyRiver cataloging software on 15 catalogers' workstations, on- and off-site.
• Train catalogers and support staff on software, systems integration, electronic resources and new features of current subscriptions. Collaborates with other staff members to identify user needs.
• Under the supervision of the CIO, Systems Librarian will be responsible for assisting new customers in loading Cassidy MARC records to their local library systems.
• Identifies, evaluates and implements new and emerging library and library-related technologies and applications that will benefit both staff and customers.
• Data processing routines to customize MARC file deliveries to subscribers.
• Other systems-related duties, as assigned, by CIO and company President.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree, or Master's candidate, or equivalent, in Library Science or Information Science or Computer Science WITH relevant work in MARC environment.
• Must have significant experience working with the MARC formats and bibliographic data.
• Experience, or strong professional interest in managing an integrated library system, preferably SIRSIDynix.
• Strong service orientation; initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively; excellent organizational skills; excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; able to prioritize assignments, but also able to shift priorities quickly as necessary.
• Knowledge of trends in information technology as related to libraries.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of library technology protocols, such as OpenURL.
• Knowledge of XML, Perl, PHP CSS and SKOS.
• Experience with network administration and user support.
• Experience developing web resources and custom applications.
• Knowledge of RDA and AACR2Rev.
• Knowledge of metadata formats other than MARC, such as Dublin Core, MARCXML.
• Analytical problem solving.

Salary and Benefits
